Fit for Your Program

Does Volt work if we don't have a strength coach?

Yes. This is the situation Volt is built for. Every team starts with a complete, sport-specific program written by CSCS-certified coaches, and every plan includes a CSCS-certified Strength Coach Consultant from Volt who helps set it up and adjust it. Cortex® recommends each athlete's weights, so nobody has to calculate loads.

Volt does not replace a coach on the floor. Someone still needs to supervise, teach technique, and keep athletes working. What Volt replaces is the blank-page programming.

“Volt is EASY to use. Experts design the weight room program after a discussion with me about what we want to accomplish. Kids love the ease of the workouts at their fingertips. I can adjust the workouts quickly.”

Jenny RichardsonHead Volleyball Coach, Georgetown High School (TX)TrustpilotRead review

“We did not have the staff to really give the students a one on one strength training coach, so this app helped us to manage a larger volume of athletes well, with individualized plans.”

Jesse KemmererTrustpilotRead review

“The strength coaches behind Volt are legitimate and have built programs that are similar to how our athletes train at Cal State Northridge. This is the first time every athlete has had the chance to train on an elite-level program affordably. If you don’t have a strength coach, you’d be crazy not to get Volt!”

Daniel KohnFormer Director of Strength and Conditioning, Cal State NorthridgeCustomer testimonial2016

Can I still customize the program?

Yes. You start from a finished program and change only what you want: exercises, sets, reps, loading, training days, session length, and phases. You can swap a movement for the whole team, for one block, or for one athlete, add your own custom movements and videos, or build a program from scratch.

“Starting with base templates and changing to fit time and specific needs is very easy and overall it has saved me hours of time from building programs from the bottom up.”

JeremyTrustpilotRead review

“As a CSCS and Director of Performance for an entire athletic department, I can't emphasize enough how much I love the ability to build custom programs, save them as templates, yet still personalize movements for athletes…”

Mike DeRoehnTrustpilotRead review

Will it work with our equipment, schedule, and phone policy?

Yes. Set the equipment you have, down to bodyweight only, and Volt adjusts exercise selection while keeping the intended movement patterns. Programs are built around your season dates and available training time.

If phones aren't allowed in your weight room, Tablet Training Mode runs up to 20 athletes from one shared device, and workouts can also be printed.

“With our school’s transition to a cell phone-free environment, having the ability for students to use iPads at the lifting platforms has also been very helpful.”

Alyssa HurtTrustpilotRead review

“Workouts can be tailored to available time, available equipment, season schedules, various experience levels, and more.”

DavidTrustpilotRead review

“It's perfect for summer break when the athletes are back home. The sport specific workouts can be tailored to the equipment that is available to you.”

Ken BTrustpilotRead review

Can we use Volt for P.E. and weights classes?

Yes. Volt programs are built for sports and for P.E., and many schools run the same account for weights classes and teams. Teachers can adjust for a wide range of ability levels, track participation for grading, and use Tablet Training Mode where phones aren't allowed.

“We have been using the Volt app and programs for our district for multiple years. We use it for our students in Weights classes as well as our athletes.”

Ryan LillardTrustpilotRead review

“The Volt app has made my weight lifting class more versatile and is greatly helping my students get in better shape.”

RosalesTrustpilotRead review

“It provides a strong foundation for developing strength, mobility, endurance, and overall fitness while still allowing me to differentiate instruction and meet students where they are.”

Nicole SeguraTrustpilotRead review

What about injured or limited athletes?

A coach can change one athlete's plan without touching the rest of the team, either by swapping movements for a set period or by duplicating the program for bigger changes. Athletes can also pick an appropriate replacement when a movement doesn't work for them that day. Volt is a training tool, not a rehab program, so follow your athletic trainer's guidance for injured athletes.

“I also enjoy being able to modify programs to tailor to specific athletes needs due to injury.”

Graceland Women's WrestlingTrustpilotRead review

“We also like the primers, finishers, and the fact you can replace a lift if you're injured.”

Denise Van De WalleTrustpilotRead review

Will our athletes actually do the work?

You'll know either way. Coaches see who completed each workout, how many sets they finished, and how hard it felt, across the whole roster. Athletes get their exact workout, with weights, reps, rest timers, and demo videos, on their phone or a shared tablet. Across workouts logged by high school users, the median set completion rate is 92%.

“I love the option for myself to be able to log in and see who is actually "doing" the work and who is not!”

Neil LarsonTrustpilotRead review

“Kids that don't finish a morning workout are coming back in the afternoon to finish their workouts. This was not happening prior to Volt.”

Hoyt SutherlandHead Football Coach, Hanover High School (NH)Customer testimonial2018

“Love the accountability aspect of it where the whole team can see who's completing workouts while they're all home for the Summer and think it is pushing them all to get in the weight room to get better.”

Does Volt work for military, fire, and law enforcement?

Yes. Volt has been deployed by the U.S. Air Force, National Guard units, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection, along with police and fire departments. Across 18 months of voluntary, self-guided training by 7,781 USAFE Airmen and Guardians, the average weight lifted per workout increased 17%. Workouts can be downloaded for offline training, printed, or run on a shared tablet.

“The Volt program has really helped me as the Health and Wellness manager for over 600 first responders in our department. Its ease of use, variety, and intelligent programming, allows me to feel confident our members are getting what they need to keep their fitness levels up the right way.”

Patrick GallagherTrustpilotRead review

Do athletes actually get stronger on Volt?

On average, yes. High school athletes on Volt gained 19% in strength after 9 months (one school year) of training. That figure compares each athlete's estimated one-rep max in their first session with their recent best, then averages across athletes.

“They are definitely getting stronger. I have one individual that benched around 90/95 and maxed out at 145 two weeks ago!”

Kaitlyn MallerneeHead Women's Soccer Coach, Elmira CollegeCustomer testimonial2018

“Many of them have made comments that they haven't felt so strong before, or that they can't believe their bench/squat is what it is now.”

Keith MoraHead Football Coach, Danbury High School (OH)Customer testimonial2018

“Since we started using the app, my athletes have become noticeably more explosive, stronger, and faster.”

Xavier CobbHS Strength CoachTrustpilotRead review

Does Volt reduce injuries?

We don't claim Volt prevents injuries. Too much of injury risk sits outside any training program. What Volt does is build industry-standard injury-mitigation protocols into every session, include mobility and prehab routines, match loads to each athlete, and adjust weights set to set based on how hard the athlete says each set felt. Here is what coaches have reported.

“We were averaging 1.5 ACL tears every year for 10 years—but haven’t had a single one since starting Volt 3 years ago!”

Andy KaplanHead Women's Soccer Coach, Reinhardt UniversityCustomer testimonial2017

“In our older players we are really seeing results, in all players we've seen a big drop in injuries.”

Ian ThomsonHead Women's Soccer Coach, Tabor CollegeCustomer testimonial2018

“Thus far our football team is 4-2, a significant improvement from our 1-8 record last year. We have yet to have a varsity player have to miss a single game due to injury.”

Jake PalmerHead Football Coach, Fisher High School (IL)Customer testimonial2017

How do I show my AD or administration that it's working?

Volt reports strength gains, participation, readiness, and workout feedback for every athlete and team, and you can export the raw data (.CSV) for your own reports.

“The engagement data helps me to justify to my admin why I need the software, why I need new equipment or replace something because of such high usage, etc.”

“Good tracking tools to monitor progress and engagement.”

Support & Onboarding

What support do we get?

Every plan includes a CSCS-certified Strength Coach Consultant from Volt: a real strength coach who helps you set up your program, adjust it through the season, and answer questions. You can also reach the team through in-app chat and the Help Center.

“We love the interaction we have with our strength coach, Victoria. She's available to meet with me whenever I want, with the team via zoom, and tailors our workouts to what we need in season, out of season, etc.”

Denise Van De WalleTrustpilotRead review

“Customer service is very responsive and always has a coherent solution to an issue.”

Ken FilasWrestling Coach, Round Lake High SchoolTrustpilotRead review

“When I have questions, I always get outstanding assistance.”

Mr. Sherrill G. SmithTrustpilotRead review

How long does setup take?

Days, not months. We handle the account setup, your Strength Coach Consultant helps configure the program around your sport, season dates, and equipment, and athletes join from an invite.

“The switch to Volt was very easy. The high school students jumped right in and figured it out right away.”

Neil LarsonTrustpilotRead review

“The platform is super user friendly, which makes it easy for everyone to follow their workouts, stay on track, and keep up with their progress.”

Blake LewisTrustpilotRead review

Is there a learning curve?

For athletes, very little. They open the app and it walks them through each set with demo videos and rest timers. For coaches, the basics are quick to learn, and the deeper tools take some exploring. Your Strength Coach Consultant can walk you through them.

“Volt has been super helpful and a game changer if you take the time to find all of the features within.”

Graceland Women's WrestlingTrustpilotRead review

“The students and athletes find the Volt program very user friendly.”

Kyle Vanden BoschTrustpilotRead review

We already use another platform or spreadsheets. How hard is it to switch?

Not hard. Because Volt starts you with a complete program, you don't have to rebuild your old one exercise by exercise. Schools have switched to Volt from TeamBuildr, TrainHeroic, BFS, and spreadsheets.

“Before switching to Volt, I was spending 3 hours every week trying to adjust a competitor of Volt's static programming to fit the needs of my male and female athletes. Volt is a huge timesaver for me!”

Volt replaces much of the blank-page programming and routine load calculation. It gives you the program, recommends every athlete's weights, and adjusts them as athletes train, so coaches spend their time coaching.
